DIKU-Revyen 2026 Makes Fun of Me!

I have unlocked another achievement!

The Department of Computer Science at Copenhagen University (DIKU) has a long-standing tradition of an annual student revue (a satirical show of sketches and songs) called DIKU-revyen. I think this is awesome, even though I’ve never attended or been otherwise involved.

Imagine my surprise when I learned that the 2026 edition included a sketch that seems to have sprung fully formed from my brow like Athena from Zeus’s:

The background is that I maintain a repository at GitHub called Gitte: Git på pæredansk, which presents and curates a number of suggestions for Danish terminology for version control system concepts like those used in git.

Repo on GitHub: https://github.com/thorehusfeldt/git-paa-dansk

The repo contains some serious suggestions for Danish jargon, including humorous usage examples in which ordinary git jargon is rendered in painfully earnest Danish:

Det håndplukker vi da bare fra udviklergrenen.

Hov, jeg tvangspuffede vistnok til hovedgrenen!

Husk at kvase dine fastlæggelser, inden du fletter.

The linked sketch consists of three people just reading these quotes. To make it even funnier to Copenhagen ears, they are read in a laughably bad attempt at the East Jutland dialect østjysk. This is probably fair revenge for my own opening passage describing current Danglish usage, and, despite its phonological helplessness an endearing defense mechanism.

Man anvender enkle fordanskninger af de engelske begreber, som fx “Kan du pushe branchen?” eller “Jeg puller!”. Udtalen foregår typisk med anvendelse af amerikansk engelsk med stærk østdansk accent. Sig derfor /bwæːnɕ/, ikke /bɹɑːntʃ/.

I am flattered beyond words. Haleandmodning godkendt. Next year: please do a full musical number with dancers. And a dialect coach.
